Talking about art is almost as much fun as doing art and few things are as much fun as making art! Here are some thoughts I have on the subject of painting.

Shadow Study by Nina Allen Freeman
I've enjoyed using collage in my paintings for many years. I've created collage papers in a variety of ways but recently I began layering collage and paint. This layering technique creates a very rich textured surface that is an interesting background for many subjects. [...]

I became interested in acrylic inks because of their brilliant concentrated color but thin consistency making it possible for them to blend together on paper beautifully. [...]

"Pink Lily" by Nina Allen Freeman
Monoprinting is done with media of all kinds but watercolor is the easiest and most forgiving to use. First, a Monoprint is a print that is taken only once. The resulting image can then be enhanced with paint, pencil or any other media. I introduced Monoprinting to my watercolor class as a fun project and found that with experimentation and work it is possible to create some wonderful pieces of art this way. [...]

I think the writer may have wanted me to take my last blog a bit further and explain my technique for getting this effect with watercolor. "Green Debths" is another painting using the plastic wrap technique. The technique is very simple but you have to remember a couple of things; use very saturated watercolor paint (minimal water-lots of paint in your mixture). No thin watery paints. Also, limit your colors to no more than three. 2 warm and 1 cool or 2 cool and 1 warm. This is [...]

"Boxed Lilies" unfinished Demonstration - Acrylic on Paper: I will be painting with fluid acrylic paints in a 1/2 mixture with Polymer Medium on a half sheet of 140lb Hot press watercolor paper. I played around with several designs for a pale flower on a dark background looking for a design that would be different and interesting. I decided on 2 flowers, one looking backward, and both in the top two thirds of a vertical paper. To give the bottom third interest, I put in a "window" with lily leaves and plan to make them dark on a light background. After I photographed the drawing, [...]
